Amazon FNSKU vs SKU vs ASIN - What's The Difference?
*Amazon FNSKU vs SKU vs ASIN - What's The Difference?*
Today I will explain the differences between an FNSKU, a SKU and an ASIN and, importantly, how and when to use them. These are all Amazon-specific terms, so listen up Amazon sellers!
*What is an ASIN?*
This stands for ‘Amazon Standard Identification Number’.
Every product on Amazon has its own ASIN, as a way of identifying the product in Amazon’s huge catalog.
The ASIN can be found on every Amazon product page when you scroll down to the ‘Additional Information’ section, and is also present in the Amazon URL.
Sellers can use ASINs to look up products on Amazon and check to see if they are eligible to list the products.
*Amazon FNSKUs*
FNSKU = Fulfilment Network Stock Keeping Unit.
The FNSKU is a type of barcode Amazon uses to identify a product and connect it with a particular seller.
You will not have the same FNSKU as another seller; the code will always be unique to you and the specific products you are listing.
FNSKUs only concern Amazon FBA sellers as it’s a code used to track products within their internal fulfilment centres. If you’re fulfilling orders yourself (FBM), you do not need to worry about FNSKUs.
*What then, is a SKU?*
This is where the confusion comes. A SKU is not just an abbreviation for people who think FNSKU is too long to say! There are differences.
A SKU is a unique code or short description of a product that is for your benefit.
It’s a useful way to track your own products and you may want to make it specific.
*To summarize:*
*ASIN* –
a unique code given to all Amazon products, predominantly for Amazon’s benefit.
*FNSKU* –
a unique code which links a product to a seller. FBA sellers must print off FNSKU labels and affix to the packaging of every product they send to Amazon, unless they want their products to be commingled.
*SKU -
specifically for the seller’s benefit; a code/description you choose to help manage your inventory and keep track of your products.
